Jerusalem Stone
from Eve Jacobs-Carnahan - EJC-JS-UG
Jerusalem Stone was inspired by the sight of cyclamen growing out of a stone wall in Jerusalem. I was amazed that such beautiful plants could grow from cracks in the rocks in such a hot, harsh climate. The clashing stones symbolize the people of that city. Each stands firmly, unwilling to yield to another. The cyclamen grows from their midst, despite (or because of) the collision of the stones. I chose to knit the flower petals from silk, a fiber whose delicate sheen belies its innate strength. Would that all recognized the vigor and beauty of the peoples of Jerusalem.
